The LIFT-OFF start-up competition is entering its next round. This competition, sponsored by the University of Göttingen, is aimed both at people interested in creating a startup and at active founders, in all sectors. The competition will be accompanied by a number events and workshops, as well as a startup–mentoring program, throughout the entire competition period. Attractive cash and non-cash prizes await! Prizes will be awarded in the categories “Startup potential” and “Science”. There will also be “audience choice” awards in both categories. Life Science Factory

The goal of the Life Science Factory is to promote scientific progress in the life science sector and strengthen research and development of innovative technologies that have a clear application focus.

Since January 2022 we have been offering start-ups fully equipped laboratory space, including state-of-the-art equipment, in the Sartorius Quarter.

In its 3,300 m² meter facility, the new Life Science Factory is also home to innovative event and office spaces, as well as the Maker’s Factory.

12 life science startups and founding teams, an expert jury with 4 personalities from the investment sector, 3 renowned program partners and plenty of room for innovation, inspiration, and exchange – welcome to this year’s ELSA Pitch Bowl!

ELSA stands for Entrepreneurial Life Science Accelerator and describes the path that our academic startup teams have taken over the last few months: Within three intensive check-ins at the Life Science Factory, the teams received 1:1 coaching sessions, impulses from industry experts and valuable support to sharpen their business model and validate their startup idea. The ELSA program is run by the partners Fraunhofer AHEAD, Helmholtz Munich and the Life Science Factory, and the ELSA Pitch Bowl is the final event in front of a broad audience.

Format

In 3-minute pitches, the 12 founding teams present their development in the areas of idea, market, and team, and receive on-stage feedback and critical questions from an experienced investor jury, which awards a prize to the most promising team. 

The event offers the opportunity to experience the innovative power of the life sciences startup scene firsthand and gain an exclusive insight into the results of the ELSA Accelerator Program. Following a welcome address and brief overviews of the program, the focus shifts to the teams presentations, followed by the jury’s decision and the audience vote. The evening concludes with a get-together featuring snacks and drinks. The networking provides the ideal setting to make new connections, discuss ideas, and get to know the life sciences ecosystem.

Life Science Start-up Day

In Germany, startups are gaining more attention all the time, and “startup founder” is now widely seen as a realistic career option. However, researchers and startups in the life sciences face special challenges when it comes to implementing technology transfer and establishing themselves in the market.

The Life Science Start-up Day is a conference for those who have founded a company and those who wish to, as well as for scientists and other network partners, with the purpose of  facilitating exchange within the life science community.

On the day of the event, the program will feature exciting startup presentations, expert panels, and interactive discussion sessions, as well as insights from industry and academia and direct interaction with investors and entrepreneurs from the life sciences sector. In addition to expert presentations and discussions, networking and matchmaking sessions will provide opportunities for new partnerships, ideas, and business opportunities.
